অসাহয় মানুষ -৬
স্বল্প আলোকিত বাতির আলোয় অচেতন প্রদিপকে দেখে অন্তরার বুঝতে বাকি রইলো না যে অপুষ্টিতে ভুগছে ও। ওর শরীরের অবস্থা দেখে বোঝা যায় যেন মিঠা পানির মাছ সমুদ্রের লবনাক্ত পানির সাথে খাপ খাওয়াতে না পারার মত অবস্থা ওর শরীরের।
প্রদিপের আপন কেউ এখানে আছে কিনা জিজ্ঞেস করায় উপস্থিত বস্তি বাসী কয়েকজন একে অন্যের মুখ চাওয়া চাওয়ি করলো।
একটু সন্দিগ্ধ হয়ে অন্তরা ওর ঠিকানা জিজ্ঞেস করায় একজন কিছুটা ইতস্ততঃ করে জানালো যে মাধুকরী জানে।
মাঝ বয়সী যে মহিলা প্রদিপকে এখানে নিয়ে এসেছে এবং তাড়াহুড়ো করে যে মহিলা কাপড় আর পানি আনতে গেল সবাই ওই মহিলার কথা বলছে বুঝতে পারলো অন্তরা।
-হেই বেটিইতো হ্যারে যাদু করে রাখছে, ওর এ অবস্থার জন্য হেই দায়ী।
অল্প বয়সী একহারা গড়নের একটি মেয়ে বললো কথাটা।
অন্তরা তাকালো সেদিকে। আলো আধারীতে দেখা যাওয়া শাড়ী পরা মেয়েটি বিশের নিচে বয়স হবে বলে বোধ হলো।
-চুপ কর জরিনা, হেই শুনলে খাইছে তোরে।
-ক্যান ডর করি নাকি আমি হ্যারে।
পাশে দাড়ানো ওরই বয়সী অন্য একটি মেয়ের কথার জবাব দিল জরিনা।
-ওই বেডিই ওর মাথাডা খারাপ করছে।
-তুই কি জানিস প্রদিপ অজ্ঞান হওনের আগে বারবার হেরে কইছে কিলিনিকে না আনোনের জন্য। ওই বেটির কোলে শুয়ে থাকলে নাকি হ্যে ভালো হইয়া যাইবে।
-চুপ কর বেডি আইতাছে।
মাধুকরী ওর একটা পুরনো শাড়ী আর মাটির কলল ভরা পানি আনলো।
এবারে অন্তরা ভালো করে দেখার জন্য তাকালো মাধুকরীর দিকে।
লাল হলুদ মেশানো একটা সুতির শাড়ী পরনে। চোখে মুখে ক্লান্তির ছাপ থাকলেও কর্মোদ্দিপনায় কোন ঘাটতি নেই। স্বল্প আলোতেও ওর কপালে জমে থাকা ঘামের ফোটা সুস্পষ্ট।
উদ্বিগ্নতার ছাপ চোখে মুখে পরিষ্কার প্রতিভাত মাধুকরীর।
-এত বড় কাপড় দিয়ে কি হবে টুকরো কাপড় লাগবে।
কেউ কিছু বলার আগেই মাধুকরী এক টান দিয়ে আস্ত শাড়ীর একটা অংশ ছিড়ে ফেললো।
প্রায় ঘন্টা খানেক সময় ধরে মাথায় পানি ঢেলে আর ভেজা কাপড়ে শরীর মুছে দিয়েও প্রদিপের জ্বর কমানো গেল না। আর ওর জ্ঞানও ফিরে আসলো না।
বাতাসের ঝাপটা থামলেও ফিস ফিস করে বৃষ্টি তখনো বন্দ হয়নি। এরই মধ্যে কাদা প্যাচপেচে অন্দকারাচ্ছন্ন অলিগলি মাড়িয়ে অনেক বস্তিবাসী হাজির হলো প্রদিপের অসুস্থতার খবর শুনে।
অন্তরা এর আগে প্রদিপকে দেখেছে বলে মনে করতে পারলো না। ওকে আনার পর থেকে শুশ্রূষা করতে ব্যস্ত হয়ে পড়ায় স্বল্প আলোয় ওর মুখটা করে ভালো তখনো দেখেনি অন্তরা। কিন্তু বস্তিবাসীদের নিজের মত করে বলা নানা মন্তব্যে ওকে অতিমানব বলে মনে হলো অন্তরার কাছে।
এতোক্ষনে ভালো ভাবে ওর মুখটা দেখার চেষ্টা করলো অন্তরা।
টকটকে ফর্সা মুখে বেশ ক’এক দিনের শেভ না করা খোচা খোচা কালো দাড়িগুলো পরিস্কার বোঝা যাচ্ছে। নাকটা লম্বাটে সুচালো, ছোট ছোট করে ছাটা চুলে কানদুটো একটু বেশী খাড়া খাড়া মনে হচ্ছে।
ওযে বস্তির কেউ না তা ওর শরীর বলে দিচ্ছে। কিন্তু ওর প্রতি বস্তিবাসীদের আন্তরিকতায় মনে হয় ও যেন ওদেরই কেউ।
ওর জ্বরও কমছে না আর জ্ঞানও ফিরছে না। চিন্তিত হয়ে উঠলো অন্তরা। এই মুহুর্তে ওকে এখান থেকে নিয়ে যাওয়া দরকার।
-অন্তরা মা কি হয়েছে এখানে, এত ভীড় কেন? বস্তিবাসীদের ভীড় ঠেলতে ঠেলতে ষাটঊর্ধ্ব বয়সী আল্লারাখা ক্লিনিকের বারান্দায় উঠে আসলো।
-তুমি আবার কষ্ট করে বৃষ্টিতে ভিজতে ভিজতে আসতে গেলে কেন বাবা? ঝড় বৃষ্টি হচ্ছিলো তায় আটকে গেলাম। তারপর এই রূগীটা আসাতে দেরী হলো। একটু বাদেইতো ফিরতাম।
অন্তরার কথায় আল্লারাখা তাকালো ক্লিনিকের খাটে শুয়ে থাকা প্রদিপের দিকে। গভীর ভাবে তাকিয়ে দেখলো ওকে কিছুক্ষন।
– জ্বর বেশী উঠাতে অজ্ঞান হয়ে পড়েছে। জ্বর নামছে না কিছুতেই আর জ্ঞানও ফিরেছে না। ওকে তাড়াতাড়ি এখান থেকে নিয়ে চিকিৎসার ব্যবস্থা না করলে খারাপ কিছু ঘটতে পারে।
অন্তরার মন্তব্যে যেন চমকে উঠলো মাধুকরী।
ততোক্ষণে বস্তি সরদার হাজির হয়েছে। সে আল্লারাখার পূর্বপরিচিত, সে আল্লারাখার কানে কানে কি একটা বললো।
সেদিকে তাকিয়ে দেখল মাধুকরী।
-তাড়াতাড়ি হেরে নেয়ার বন্দোবস্ত করেন আপা।
গলাটা ধরে আসলো মাধুকরীর।
ওর দিকে তাকিয়ে একটু অবাক হলো অন্তরা। মাধুকরীর চোখ দুটো জলে টলমল করছে।
আল্লারাখার সাথে নিচু স্বরে কিছু আলাপ করলো অন্তরা।
তারপর ড্রাইভারকে গাড়ী লাগাতে বললো।
মাধুকরী একাই আড়কোলা করে উঠিয়ে প্রদিপের অসাড় দেহটা তার কারের পিছনের ছিটে শুইয়ে দিল।
গাড়ীটা ষ্টার্ট করতেই মাধুকরী ওর চোখের জল মুছতে মুছতে অন্তরার একটা হাত নিয়ে চুম্বন করলো।
সে রাতে আল্লারাখার পরামর্শে প্রদিপকে নিয়ে নিজের বাড়ীতে উঠালো অন্তরা।
দোতলা বাড়ীর নিচে গেষ্টরূমে ওকে রাখার ব্যবস্থা করা হলো।
আল্লারাখা আর বাসায় থাকা অন্তরার দুরসম্পর্কীয় খালা খালেদার সাহায্য ওকে সেবা শুশ্রূষা করে প্রায় ভোরের দিকে জ্বর নেমে গেল।
অন্তরা বিশ্রাম নেয়ার জন্য উপরে গেল।
জ্ঞান ফিরলো প্রদিপের।
-তোমার শরীরে কি অযত্ন সয় বাবা।
আল্লারাখার কথায় প্রদিপ তাকালো ওর দিকে।
এখানে অজ্ঞান অবস্থায় ওকে নিয়ে আসা তারপর সারা রাত জেগে ওকে শুশ্রূষা করা ইত্যাদি ব্যপারে আল্লারাখা ওকে বললো একে একে।
ধীরে ধীরে উঠে বসলো প্রদিপ।
একে একে সব মনে পড়লো ওর। এভাবে এখানে আসাতে যেন লজ্জা পেল একটু। খুব করে কৃতজ্ঞতা জানালো ওদেরকে, আর সবাইকে অমন বিপদের মধ্যে ফেলার জন্য দুঃখ প্রকাশ করলো প্রদিপ।
ওর বিপদের সময় এই অচেনা মানুষগুলোর অমন দরদ দেখানো সত্যি সত্যিই হৃদয় স্পর্শ করলো ওর।
আল্লারাখাকে চেনা লাগলো প্রদিপের। বোধহয় দেখেছে বস্তিতে এর আগে।
ব্যস্ত হয়ে উঠে বসার চেষ্টা করলো।
-না না এখনই উঠা চলবে না। আগে কিছু খেয়ে সুস্থ হয়ে ওঠো।
অন্তরার কথায় তাকালো ওর দিকে প্রদিপ।
সারা রাতের ক্লান্তি শেষে হাত মুখ ধুয়ে পরিপাটি হয়ে এসেছে।
মাঝারী গড়ন, সাধারণ অন্যান্য দশজন ওর বয়সী মেয়ের থেকে উচ্চতায় একটু বেশী। ফর্সা গায়ের রং। হালকা আকাশী রয়ের কামিজ পরণে ওড়নাটা গলায় পেচানো। চুলগুলো খোপা করে বাধা। লম্বাটে মুখটাতে বেশ ক্লান্তি লেপটে আছে।
-অন্তরা, ডাক্তার ও। বস্তির ক্লিনিকে রোগীদের দেখে। কাল অত রাতে উপায়ন্তর না দেখে তোমাকে অন্তরায়ই এখানে নিয়ে এসেছে।
-থাক বাবা তোমাকে আর অত করে বলতে হবে না। এখন যাও তুমি গিয়ে একটু বিশ্রাম নাও। নিজের দিকে একটু আধটু নজর দিতে হবেতো। তোমার শরীরটাওতো কয়েক দিন ধরে ভাল যাচ্ছে না, তার পরও এ শরীরে ঝড় জলের মধ্যে কি দরকার ছিল তোমার যাওয়ার।
কথা বলতে বলতে আল্লারাখার কপালে হাত দিয়ে তাপ পরীক্ষা করলো অন্তরা।
চুপ করে বাধ্যগত হয়ে দাড়িয়ে রইলো আল্লারাখা।
– জ্বর আছে দেখছি। এই নাও টেবলেট দুটো খেয়ে নাও। কটা বাজে খেয়াল আছে। অন্তরা টেবিলের ড্রয়ার থেকে টেবলেট বের করে আল্লারাখাকে দিল।
অন্তরার হাত থেকে টেবলেট নিয়ে পানি দিয়ে গিলে ফেললো আল্লারাখা।
-কিন্তু মা তোর চোখের নিচ দুটো কেমন ফুলে আছে তা খেয়াল করেছিস।
খুব যেন সমীহ করে নীচু স্বরে কথাটা বললো আল্লারাখা।
কিছুক্ষন আগে যিনি কত আত্মবিশ্বাসের সাথে প্রদিপকে এত অত উপদেশ শোনাচ্ছিলো অন্তরার সামনে সেই আল্লারাখার মধ্যেই কেমন যেন আত্মবিশ্বাসের ঘাটতি পরিলক্ষিত হলো।
একটু অবাক লাগলো প্রদিপের।
-থাক তোমাকে আর ডাক্তারগীরি করতে হবে না। যার কাজ তাকেই করতে দাও।
মৃদু হেসে বললো অন্তরা।
ভারী ভালো লাগলো প্রদিপের।
-আমি প্রদিপের বাবাকে টেলিফোন করেছি তিনি আসছেন ওকে নিতে।
প্রদিপের কাছ থেকে সংগ্রহ করা ওর যৎসামান্য পরিচয় জানিয়ে আল্লারাখা কথাটা বললো অন্তরাকে।
কোন কথা বললো না প্রদিপ। কেবল তাকিয়ে তাকিয়ে উপভোগ লাগলো বাবা মেয়ের অনাবিল অন্তরিকতার সম্পর্ককে।
