সত্যিকারের বন্ধু

ঘটনাটি প্রথম বিশ্বযুদ্ধের সময়কার। যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে এক সৈনিক তাঁর আজীবন বন্ধুকে যুদ্ধে আহত হয়ে একটু দূরে অন্য একটি ট্রেঞ্চে পড়ে থাকতে দেখে খুব অসহায় বোধ হল আর কষ্টে তার হৃদয়ে রক্তক্ষরণ হতে থাকলো। সৈন্যটি অন্যান্যদের সাথে একটি ট্রেঞ্চের মধ্যে আশ্রয় নিয়েছিল যখন তাদের মাথার উপর দিয়ে সা সা শব্দে গোলাগুলি চলছিলো। এ অবস্থার মধ্যে সৈনিকটি তার অদূরে লুটিয়ে থাকা আহত বাল্য বন্ধুটিকে নিয়ে আসার জন্য লেফটেন্যান্ট এর কাছে অনুমতি চাইলো।
লেফটেন্যান্ট বললেন-তুমি যেতে পারো তবে তোমার জন্য এই ঝুকি নেয়া যুক্তি যুক্ত হবে বলে আমি মনে করি না। এতক্ষণে তোমার বন্ধু সম্ভবত মারা গেছে এবং তুমি অনেকটা অযথাই তোমার জীবনকে বিপন্ন করছ।
লেফটেন্যান্টের পরামর্শ অগ্রাহ্য করে সৈনিকটি বেরিয়ে গেল এবং অলৌকিকভাবে সে তার বন্ধুর কাছে পৌঁছাতে সক্ষম হল। সময় ক্ষেপণ না করে সৈনিকটি তার আহত বন্ধুকে নিজের কাঁধে তুলে নিয়ে তাদের কোম্পানির ট্রেঞ্চে ফিরিয়ে আনল।
লেফটেন্যান্ট আহত সৈনিককে পরীক্ষা করে অসহায় ভাবে সৈনিকটির দিকে তাকালেন।
-আমি তোমাকে আগেই বলেছিলাম এই ঝুকি নেয়া যুক্তিযুক্ত হবে না। দেখ তোমার বন্ধু মারা গেছে এবং তুমি মারাত্মকভাবে আহত হয়েছো।
-কিন্তু আমার ঝুঁকি নেয়ার প্রচেষ্টা পুরোপুরি যুক্তিযুক্ত ও সার্থক স্যার। সৈনিক দৃঢ়তার সাথে বলল।
-তুমি কি ভাবে বলছ যে তোমার জীবন বাজি রেখে এধরণের ঝুকি নেয়া সার্থক হয়েছে? তোমার বন্ধুতো মারা গেছে!
-হ্যাঁ, স্যার। সৈনিকটি উত্তর দিল। -প্রচেষ্টা সার্থক ছিল এই কারণে যে যখন আমি তার কাছে পৌঁছেছিলাম সে তখনও বেঁচে ছিল এবং ফিসফিস করে আমার কানের কাছে মুখটা নিয়ে বলেছিল,- জিম…, আমি জানতাম যে তুই আসবি।

কোন কাজ করা বা ঝুকি নেয়া যুক্তিযুক্ত কিনা জীবনে বেশিরভাগ সময় তা প্রকৃতই নির্ভর করে আপনি এটি কীভাবে সেটা দেখেন তার উপর। আপনি সাহস সঞ্চয় করুন এবং আপনার হৃদয় আপনাকে যা করতে বলবে সেটা করুন যাতে করে পরবর্তী কালে এটি না করার জন্য আপনাকে আফসোস করতে না হয়।
আপনাদের প্রত্যেকের জীবনে সত্যিকারের বন্ধুর আগমন ঘটুক। সত্যিকারের বন্ধু হ‘ল সেই ব্যক্তি ; যখন বিশ্বের বাকী সবাই মুখ ফিরিয়ে নেবে তখন সে আপনার পাশে থাকবে।
